Tipping Customs, Rules, Rates in Turkey

 If you are that classy to think if you should leave a tip in Turkey, this post is for you.

For Turkish citizens, I can say that tipping is not that common. It is far from being a rule or custom. You go to a restaurant, you ask for the bill and pay whatever is written there or may be leave your change, coins etc.

But for touristic places I can say that tip is expected from customers. Of course you are still free to go when you pay the check and will not have any bad looks from around.

In the touristic restaurants in Turkey a tipping rate of %10 would be good enough. In a taxi, which I would never recommend you to take as a Turkish person (at least in Istanbul don’t) the driver would definitely expect you to leave the change, and even act like he does not have coins to give your change. You should not believe this. He’d most probably be on a good profit anyway by taking you to your destination from a longer route.

Of course it is better if you tip in Turkish liras, instead of euro’s or dollars as you would save a lot from difference.

All in all; the banknotes of ten turkish liras would be a good tipping source and twenties will make you the king.

Top 5 different things to do in Kusadasi, Turkey

experience in Kusadasi.

In very small distances you can do a historical sightseeing in the castle, swim and sunbath in public or private beaches or enjoy some drinks in cafe's. If you want to experience the most in your Kusadasi holiday, visiting Pigeon island should defitanely be in your to do list.
 

3- Party in Bars StreetOf course, the nightlife in Kusadasi. Bar street in Kusadasi will give you many options to party. This place is dynamic, social and fun. Depending to your taste of music, budget or mood you can try many places at one night and get rid of the stress that you have collected whole year.

 

4- Join a Boat Trip

Another cheap and promising activity in Kusadasi is taking a boat trip from the main port. You will definately notice this on your way in town but joining a boat trip needs a little bit of planning too as it is not that short and involves eating, drinking, swimming and relaxing in many different peaceful bays. The price is around 25 liras ~ 10 Euros which is really low amount of investment for such experience.


5- Travel to Samos Island - Greece
You can travel to Samos island, Greece in 1,5 hours by ferry to have another stamp on

your passport while you are on holiday in Kusadasi.This Beautiful Greek Island offers a lot! A lot of historical places, clean and peaceful beaches and food! Seafood here is cheaper and I have to admit that it is more tasty.

But you have to keep in mind the siesta of Greek people! Or else you can find yourself in the abondoned streets of the island after 14.00 pm. Even so you can make your way to touristic beaches to relax and enjoy the sun.


Of course there are much more things to do during your trip to Kusadasi but as we have said in the beginning we wanted to drag you
out of the ordinary routes and advice the unique things to do in Kusadasi.

Protests in Turkey to comeback after new acts restricting Internet freedom

Protests to comeback in Turkey on 22nd of February 2014 as President of Turkish Republic approved a series of new acts to restrict internet freedom in Turkey.

After the proposition of new acts to restrict internet freedom in Turkey by the Turkish parliament, The president Abdullah Gul ironically declared on twitter that has approved the new act on February 18th 2014.

Of course, the reaction from Turkish social media was not so calm. In the first 12 hours after Gul’s declaration, an approximate of one hundred thousand users who follow Abdullah Gul on twitter has stopped following him. Later in the day Gul has literally invented a new method in Turkish legal system and announced that there should be changes in the very act that he just approved. Changes, that are not sufficient.

This has fired the internet users even more, and the date is already set for the protests; 22^nd of February 2014. Users of twitter, facebook and other social platforms in Turkey already started spreading the word to join the protests in Taksim, Istanbul and a total of 17 NGO’s already declared their support and invited their members to join the protests on Sunday.

The spokesman of the protests declared that they want protests to be peaceful without any damage done to the shops in Taksim, Istanbul but as we have seen from the previous protests, this is a slim chance.

Another tense factor for this day is the major football derby in Istanbul at the same date between Galatasaray and Besiktas in Turkish Super League in Turk Telekom Arena, 20 minutes away from Taksim. With an expected attendance of fifty thousand fans to the game, the tension between Turkish police and protesters would reach to clashes again in case if they decide to join the protests after the game.

I hope it will be a peaceful organization in the end.
